- All About My Mother (Todo sobre mi madre)
Inside every woman is an actress, a mother, a saint and inside every man is a woman... (contains extract of “All About Eve” and “A Streetcar named Desire” - I've always depended on the kindness of strangers). I really enjoyed this one. If you haven't seen it, try to do so.
- Eyes Wide Shut
A film about jealousy, trust and other things. I liked it except for Tom Cruise's “Adam West's Batman”-style mask, and the slightly dodgy murder-mystery parts. It probably could have been tighter, but you have to admire Stanley Kubrick's vision.
- Analyze This
Featuring Lisa Kudrow as a familiar character that doesn't really do much, but Billy Crystal and Robert de Niro sending up his earlier mobster roles make it worthwhile. Features the usual suspects of a mob-related film but still funny, if you haven't already seen all the best parts over the preceding six months (as I had, thanks to the magic of trailers).
- The War Zone
Tim Roth's film about incest in a family who've just moved to Devon from London and the destructive effects it has once the secret is discovered. A film that had to be made and leaves you feeling different when you walk out of the cinema at the end. Not a film to just pop in and then dash off afterwards, but a film that requires a lot of its audience - especially after the final credits. Go and see it, but be prepared to be changed.
